A16z is placing a bet on Solana gaming

Solana-based gaming company MagicBlock has raised $3 million in pre-seed funding, with investment from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. The company is developing a gaming engine that allows video games to run fully on-chain, solving the issue of low transaction speeds using its technology called ephemeral rollups. MagicBlock aims to grow its team and bring its game engine to Solana mainnet, partnering with on-chain games. The company believes that games running fully on-chain offer benefits such as composability and reduced reliance on third parties. MagicBlock's ephemeral rollups utilize a specialized version of Solana's software to temporarily modify accounts before settling back to Solana. This approach is seen as innovative in the crypto gaming space, which has witnessed significant investment with minimal returns.
