Candlefocus EditorThe school was established in 1998 when Arizona State University purchased the real estate investment trust, W. P. Carey & Co. LLC. The donation enabled the university to build a new, state-of-the-art business facility—the W. P. Carey School of Business. The building was completed in 2000 and includes classrooms, research facilities, a business library, and a simulation laboratory.
The mission of the school is to advance and promote excellence in business education and research, as well as to create dynamic and rewarding research collaborations with industry. To this end, the school offers a wide range of programs, including undergraduate majors, MBA programs, and graduate degrees. The MBA program offers five concentrations, while the undergraduate program offers majors in accounting, analytics, economics, finance, marketing, and supply chain management.
In addition to its educational offerings, the school is focused on producing meaningful research and publications. Faculty members have published in various journals, including the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, and the Journal of Management Studies. They have also been consistent contributors to the annual Best Papers in Strategic Management conference. This conference serves as one of the premier forums for academics and practitioners to exchange ideas and debate their research findings.
The W. P. Carey School of Business is home to numerous student organizations and clubs. These include the Beta Alpha Psi chapter, the National Association for Business Economics chapter, and the Association for Corporate Growth chapter, which provide students with the opportunity to connect with the business community. Other student clubs include the Real Estate Student Association, the Sales Association, and the Investment Banking Association, which provide students with extra-curricular experiences and networking opportunities.
The W. P. Carey School of Business also presents students with the opportunity to participate in internships and externships. These are designed to give students hands-on experience in their fields of study. Internships are available in finance, accounting, marketing, economics, and business analytics, while externships offer a greater level of experience in either a research or a consulting setting.
At the W. P. Carey School of Business, students also have access to resources such as the Real Estate Investment Center and the Supply Chain Management Center. These centers serve as hubs of knowledge where students can gain further insight into the various facets of business.
