Japanese Bitcoin proxy company Metaplanet has set a goal to increase its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC by 2025, according to CEO Simon Gerovich. The company currently holds 1,762 BTC valued at $172.42 million. Metaplanet plans to rely on capital market tools, such as loans and convertible bonds, to fund its BTC acquisitions. In addition to acquiring more Bitcoin, the company aims to boost Bitcoin adoption in Japan and expand its impact within the Bitcoin ecosystem. In 2024, Metaplanet's stock increased by 2,629% thanks to its Bitcoin strategy, making it the best-performing stock in Japan. The company finished the year with its first projected profits since 2017. Metaplanet's commitment to acquiring over 7,000 BTC aligns with major institutions becoming key drivers of Bitcoin demand. MicroStrategy, which was responsible for 28% of the record capital inflows into the crypto market in 2024, has paused its Bitcoin acquisitions to change its capital-raising strategy.
