Deutsche Bank Poll Reveals Widespread Public Skepticism Toward CBDCs

A recent poll conducted by Deutsche Bank found that most people are not keen on using Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and would prefer to continue using cash. The survey, which questioned around 4,850 people from the US, UK, and Europe, revealed that cash and credit/debit cards are the preferred payment methods for most respondents. While 44% of people would choose cash over CBDCs, 59% believe that cash will always be necessary. Privacy concerns were cited as a major reason for hesitancy in using CBDCs, with many participants believing that anonymous cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin offer superior privacy. The poll also found that a government-managed cryptocurrency is preferred over a private entity-supported one. Despite central banks looking into wholesale CBDC use cases, user mistrust and a preference for physical currency remain significant barriers to widespread adoption.
