Bitcoin Now Has a Trustless Bridge to Ethereum Through Arbitrum L2
Rollup layer BitcoinOS has partnered with Arbitrum One to enable trustless bridging between Bitcoin and Ethereum. This integration allows transactions on Ethereum to be settled using Bitcoin, while Bitcoin owners can use their BTC within the Ethereum ecosystem. This development opens up opportunities for Bitcoin-based DeFi growth, with BitcoinOS being touted as the first true example of Bitcoin DeFi. The integration is expected to attract more users and capital compared to existing bridged Bitcoin solutions. With Arbitrum already being the largest Ethereum-based layer-two network, it will become the largest Bitcoin layer-two network as well. The Arbitrum Foundation believes that a significant portion of Bitcoin's value could be integrated into the Arbitrum ecosystem. This integration provides a non-custodial alternative to Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), which requires users to trust third-party custodians. BitcoinOS and Arbitrum aim to tap into the massive $2 trillion Bitcoin liquidity pool for DeFi and smart contract applications. The creators believe that Bitcoin-based DeFi will experience significant growth in the next two years, as Bitcoin holders can finally access the decentralized apps and ecosystem they have been waiting for.
