Mysterious Elon Musk-Themed Crypto Hackers Are In The Spotlight With The Korean Government Hijacking YouTube Channels
Author:- – The South Korean government’s YouTube channels have all been hijacked by what at first appearance appears to be crypto scammers.
One of the attacks targeted a government channel managed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; another involved taking control of a website meant to attract foreign tourists to South Korea. Another attack occurred along a waterway that the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art manages. Imagine that Your Korea has over 500 million views on its videos and roughly 509,000 subscribers.
So according to Chosun Ilbo and the Electronic Times, the ministry declared that several channel names and profiles had been altered, and hackers started streaming live broadcasts on cryptocurrencies on September 1st, early in the morning. The channels were renamed by the hackers to “SpaceX Invest,” and they offered investors a chance to profit by purchasing coins associated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX business.
What SpaceX Invest is trying to sell, though, is unknown. No links to fictitious exchanges or attempts to promote a specific coin through posts on the channels don’t appear to have been made by the hackers. However, it appears that the attackers kept the name and logo of the Korean government during the broadcasts, which may have confused viewers.
In addition, it appears that the hackers distributed a video in which Musk is interviewed by Cathie Wood of Ark Invest and Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter. This video appears to have been copied by the hackers, who then broadcast it on other channels they recently took control of. While we have currencies named after Elon Musk, including Elongate and Dogelon Mars, a coin developed by Elon Musk will unquestionably rule the market, according to the hackers who ran one of these channels that aired the identical video on September 2.
- – The same channel, which appears to have been previously controlled by a user going by the name of OJTrivino, appears to have been compromised by the same hackers. It appears from OJTrivino’s older movies that this person is from or currently resides in Ecuador.
- – The attack, however, crippled the South Korean ministry, and it took them roughly 48 hours to fully retake control of the Dream Your Korea channel.
- – According to media reports, hackers “manipulated links” related to at least one of the channels owned by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to access the channel “rather than changing names and passwords.”
- – However, the ministry asserted that the channel’s login information and password may have been “taken” in the instance of the Imagine Your Korea account. The YouTube channel was hacked, according to Google Korea, which runs the service in the nation. The company said it was looking into the incident. While some channels were momentarily disabled, all of them have now been brought back online.
- – The ministry declared that it would take action by stepping up security and that it planned to create a “helpline” with Google Korea so that it could react quickly if a similar situation happened again. Additionally, the ministry asserted that it developed several backup accounts that could efficiently replace a primary account that had been compromised.
