The “Macro Manager” is a term used to describe a manager with a hands-off approach who trusts their employees to do their job as they see best. This forward-thinking leadership style puts emphasis on overall plans and results, rather than individual activities or day-to-day habits. As the opposite of a controlling micromanager, macro managers have become an increasingly popular management style in the workplace.

Although a macro manager who is often perceived as being too aloof and removed from daily issues, building trust and fostering a culture of open communication between themselves and their team can eliminate any misunderstandings. This in turn, will help build a strong team that can take initiative and take pride in their work.

In order for any management style to be successful, managers must be open to feedback and willing to take the time to refine their management style. The macro manager holds the key to unlocking their team’s potential and by creating an environment where employees are trusted, heard, and appreciated, they can reach the highest level of success.
