Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has criticized MicroStrategy's executive chairman Michael Saylor for advocating Bitcoin custody through large financial institutions instead of self-custody. Saylor dismissed concerns about state-sanctioned Bitcoin seizures and suggested that banks would provide safer custody solutions. Buterin called Saylor's comments "batshit insane" and criticized his regulatory capture approach. Casa HODL's Chief Security Officer, Jameson Lopp, also critiqued institutional custody, highlighting concerns such as centralization, disenfranchisement of Bitcoin holders, and deprioritization of permissionless scaling. Saylor responded to the criticism by tweeting a picture of himself holding a red rose with the caption "Spread Bitcoin with love." MicroStrategy currently holds 252,220 Bitcoin, valued at $16.95 billion.
