A Nigerian national, Simon Kaura, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his involvement in a darknet fraud scheme. Kaura led a global network that sold stolen payment card data using cryptocurrencies like bitcoin for transactions. The scheme operated across multiple countries and even managed its own illicit marketplace called Skynet. Kaura's crimes resulted in an intended loss of over $6 million. Co-conspirators, including Taylor Ross Staats, were also prosecuted, with Staats being sentenced to 18 months in prison. The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking forfeiture of $4.5 million in criminal proceeds. This case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
