A pastor in Washington has been charged with 26 counts of fraud relating to a cryptocurrency scam. Francier Obando Pinillo allegedly ran a crypto-related scam for two years, defrauding his church members and other investors out of millions of dollars. He lured his congregation into a crypto investment platform called Solano Fi, promising monthly returns of 34.9% with zero risk. However, he diverted users' funds for personal use and made excuses when they tried to withdraw their money. The FBI conducted the investigation, and if found guilty, Pinillo could face up to 20 years in jail. U.S. Attorney Vanessa Ruth Waldref warned that fraudsters now have new ways to defraud investors through cryptocurrencies, making it harder to recover funds. The article advises conducting due diligence before investing in any project, including crypto assets.
