Thailand's Phuket has announced plans to establish a Bitcoin Sandbox to attract and promote tourism in the region. The sandbox, set to launch in October 2025, will allow crypto tourists to use their Bitcoin for real estate and tourism services without the need for traditional cash transactions. The initiative has caught the attention of Binance's former CEO, Changpeng Zhao, who applauded Thailand's forward thinking. However, the proposal still needs to be passed by The Bank of Thailand, and concerns remain regarding the governance and volatility of digital assets in accounting practices. If successful, this model could be adopted by other tourist destinations, making Thailand a pioneer in incorporating crypto into the tourism industry.
