Stanford Law School professors Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried have discussed clemency for their son with lawyers and individuals in Trump's network, but it is unclear if they have made direct contact with the White House. Bankman-Fried is arguing for an excessive sentence, highlighting that FTX customers have mostly recovered their funds. The collapse of FTX in 2022 resulted in a $8 billion loss in customer assets, but the company is now recovering up to $16 billion. The FTX failure also contributed to a significant decline in the cryptocurrency market's total value.
