Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of collapsed crypto exchange FTX, has filed an appeal challenging his fraud conviction and 25-year prison sentence. In the 102-page appeal, Bankman-Fried's lawyer alleges judicial bias and improper limitations on his defense. The appeal highlights several rulings by the judge that allegedly restricted the defendant's ability to present evidence and mount an effective defense. Bankman-Fried's legal team argues for a new trial before a different judge, citing alleged bias and unfair trial environment. The appeal also raises concerns about the role of law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, which served as FTX's outside counsel and allegedly acted as an extension of the government. Bankman-Fried was convicted in November on charges of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering related to the collapse of FTX. The appeal represents his last attempt to overturn his conviction.
