The proof-of-personhood protocol called World, which validates participants' humanity using biometric data, is pausing its operations in Brazil after an appeal to continue collecting citizens' biometric data failed. The National Data Protection Agency ordered the project to stop exchanging cryptocurrency for this data, citing concerns about the exercise of free will and privacy rights. The organization behind World, Tools For Humanity, has acknowledged the decision and will temporarily halt its verification service while it makes necessary changes to comply with the order.
