Law enforcement in Phuket, Thailand, has arrested four Russian hackers who are allegedly responsible for ransomware attacks on Swiss companies and the theft of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency. The hackers deployed ransomware on the networks of 17 Swiss firms using the Phobos malware between April 2023 and October 2024. The accused were part of the Russian ransomware group 8Base and also stole around $16 million worth of Bitcoin from 1,000 victims globally. The suspects were wanted by US and Swiss authorities, and Thailand has seized evidence and is coordinating extradition with Switzerland.
