The crypto publication Cointelegraph claimed to have discovered 'breaking' research about Monero's privacy, stating that a now-deleted video revealed Chainalysis' methods for tracing Monero transactions to individual users. However, the video was well-known among Monero advocates and provided users with ways to bypass Chainalysis' techniques. Chainalysis combines 'malicious' nodes, 'decoy' inputs, and IP logs from popular wallets to deanonymize Monero transactions. The crypto privacy community criticized Cointelegraph for characterizing these techniques as 'breaking news' as they were already known in the Monero community for years. The video aimed to remind users to take steps to protect their privacy from Chainalysis' data-harvesting operations.
