Nigeria's federal government has filed another lawsuit against crypto exchange Binance, seeking a $79.5 billion penalty and $2 billion in retroactive taxes. The government also requested financial records for 2022 and 2023, arguing for an annual penalty and interest on unpaid taxes. The legal battle between Binance and Nigerian authorities began in 2024 after the arrest and detention of two company employees. Nigeria alleges that Binance operated without a license and contributed to the depreciation of the naira. One employee has been released, while the other's whereabouts are unknown. Nigeria has also accused Binance of offering to settle the case for $5 million.
