Manhattan federal prosecutors will decrease their focus on crypto-related crimes following several major convictions. The office will maintain oversight of crypto cases but has reduced the number of prosecutors handling them compared to the 2022 crypto market collapse period. This shift comes as former SEC chair Jay Clayton was nominated to become the district's US attorney. The office acknowledges that regulatory partners like the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission are actively involved in this space. Clayton, who led the SEC from 2017 to 2021, took a less aggressive approach to industry oversight compared to the current SEC chair, Gary Gensler.
