He has spent the past 12 years trying to secure permission to search the landfill and believes his cryptocurrency fortune is buried there. With the landfill expected to close in the next few years, Howells sees an opportunity to gain ownership of the land, which could provide him the legal leverage to excavate and find his lost Bitcoin. Howells plans to appeal a recent court ruling that dismissed his case, and the estimated value of his lost Bitcoin is over £630 million ($782 million) at current market prices.
