Kraken, the 6th-largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that it is launching its own layer-2 network called Ink, based on technology borrowed from Optimism. Ink is built on Optimism's OP stack and is expected to go live in early 2025. This move follows the success of Coinbase's layer-2 network, Base, which also utilizes Optimism's technology. Optimism has seen significant adoption recently, with major crypto firms and non-crypto firms planning to launch their own layer-2 networks based on the OP stack. Kraken's choice of Optimism's technology may help solidify its position as the leader in providing technology for new Ethereum layer-2 networks.
