The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), a business school in India, has introduced its own cryptocurrency called BIMCOIN for use on campus. Developed on a permissioned blockchain in partnership with the Kalp Decentra Foundation, BIMCOIN will facilitate transactions between students, vendors, and administrators while also serving as an educational tool for blockchain and digital finance learning. BIMTECH plans to integrate BIMCOIN into its academic curriculum to prepare students for careers in fintech. A pilot phase has already been conducted, with the cryptocurrency recording over 1,100 transactions. BIMCOIN is being launched amidst a surge in cryptocurrency and blockchain adoption in India, although lawmakers have yet to establish an official stance on crypto.
