A former Coinbase employee named Matthew Duke Pan, also known as "Frying Pan," has been accused of stealing code and using an AI language model called ChatGPT to change the licensing of an open-source AI coding firm called Continue.dev. Pan allegedly used the stolen code to create his own AI firm called PearAI. He claimed that PearAI had secured $500,000 in funding from startup accelerator YCombinator (YC). However, users criticized Pan for stealing code and illegally relicensing PearAI. The founder of YC initially defended Pan but later acknowledged the mistake in the relicensing. Pan has denied the accusations of stealing code and claimed that PearAI publicly credited Continue for its code.
