Sorare, a blockchain-based fantasy sports company, has been charged with providing unlicensed gambling facilities in the UK. This marks the first action taken by the Gambling Commission against a blockchain platform and could set a precedent for how regulators will handle Web3 companies in the future. Sorare operates fantasy soccer, basketball, and baseball games that use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for buying and selling collectible cards. The company has partnerships with major sporting associations, including the English Premier League and Germany's Bundesliga. Sorare will appear in court on October 4th to address the charges. This development indicates that UK regulators are taking more enforcement action against suspected illicit activities in the crypto space.
