Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E) has uncovered a $4.7 trillion black hole in US government spending. The issue was that the Treasury Access Symbol (TAS) code, which links federal payments to budget line items, was optional for years, allowing billions of dollars to flow unchecked and making it difficult to track where the money went. The TAS code is now mandatory. D.O.G.E has also reported $55 billion in estimated savings since its launch, but faces lawsuits from attorneys general in 14 states who are attempting to block the agency from obtaining sensitive government records. Some conservative experts praise D.O.G.E's access to government records, while others argue that the agency should focus on cutting major budget areas such as defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Elon's goal is to cut $1 trillion from the budget, but the agency's current progress falls significantly short of that target.
