A new report by Cerulli Associates predicts that over $100 trillion will be passed down to heirs over the next few decades, as the Great Wealth Transfer accelerates. The report states that Baby Boomers and older generations will transfer nearly $100 trillion, representing 81% of all transfers. High-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals are expected to contribute more than 50% of the total volume of transfers. In the short term, Generation X will benefit more than Millennials from the wealth transfer. Widows in the Baby Boomer and Silent Generation, as well as other older generations, are projected to receive about 38% of the wealth before it goes to heirs and charities.
