Deribit, a cryptocurrency exchange regulated in the Netherlands, has announced that it will no longer offer its services to Russian nationals and residents due to sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU). The sanctions have prompted the exchange to impose specific conditions for Russian users to access its platform, such as holding citizenship in an EU or Swiss member country or permanently residing in these regions. Russian companies are entirely excluded from Deribit's services. The cryptocurrency sector in Russia has been impacted by sanctions, leading to increased adoption of digital assets as a means to evade restrictions. Deribit had previously operated in Russia despite US-imposed sanctions but has now altered its policies due to the new EU restrictions. The exchange is also relocating to Dubai in 2023 but Russians living in Dubai are still barred from registering on the platform.
