Coinbase has announced that the SEC has agreed to drop its lawsuit against the crypto exchange. The agreement is subject to SEC commissioner approval. Coinbase's legal battle with the SEC began in 2023 when the agency alleged that the exchange violated securities laws by selling unregistered securities. Coinbase tried to get the lawsuit dismissed but only succeeded in having allegations regarding its wallet service dismissed. Coinbase then requested an interlocutory appeal, which the judge agreed to. However, with the lawsuit now likely to be dismissed, the appeal may no longer be necessary. The lawsuit has been closely watched as it could have set a precedent for how crypto exchanges are regulated in the future.
