Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong criticized SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw, calling her a "failure" and urging for her removal. Crenshaw had voted against the approval of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, setting her apart from SEC Chair Gary Gensler. Crenshaw's re-nomination is set to be voted on by the Senate Banking Committee. The Cedar Innovation Foundation labeled Crenshaw as worse than Gensler due to her anti-crypto stance. Emilie Choi, president and COO at Coinbase, also criticized Crenshaw for opposing Bitcoin ETFs. If re-nominated, Crenshaw will serve as an SEC commissioner until 2029. The recent appointment of pro-crypto libertarian Paul Atkins as the new head of the SEC has been celebrated by cryptocurrency leaders, who hope for a more accommodating approach. The SEC is a bipartisan agency with a total of five commissioners, with more than three commissioners from the same party not permitted.
