Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson predicts that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will emerge within the next three to five years. AGI represents an advancement in AI evolution, as it possesses human-like intelligence and can learn and perform tasks without specific programming. Hoskinson believes that the rapid progress in AI development, indicated by upcoming advancements like Grok 3, Llama 4, Claude's next version, and OpenAI's GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, is evidence of AGI's approaching arrival. Other industry experts, such as venture capitalist Nic Carter and OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, also believe that AGI is imminent. Altman has stated that AGI-driven agents may appear in workplaces by late 2025.
