An investigative journalist in Cambodia, Mech Dara, known for reporting on human trafficking and crypto scam centers, has been arrested by the country's state military police. He has been charged with "incitement to disturb social security" over social media posts. Dara was stopped at a toll booth and arrested under a warrant while traveling with his family. The charges were reportedly related to his posts about a damaged pagoda in Ba Phnom. The journalist had informed a human rights group of his arrest before his phone was confiscated. Last year, Dara received a Hero Award for his coverage of scam compounds in the region. The US recently imposed sanctions on a Cambodian politician for their role in human rights abuses relating to forced labor in online investment scam operations.
