According to a recent Reuters poll, the majority of economists believe that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates by 25 basis points at each of its remaining policy meetings in 2024. Of the 101 economists surveyed, 65 anticipate the Fed to reduce rates by 25 basis points not only in September but also in November and December. The growing consensus for rate cuts reflects expectations for a weakening economy, with 65 economists now expecting two more 25 basis point cuts after the September meeting. However, only a minority of nine economists predict a more aggressive 50 basis point cut at the next Fed meeting.
