This includes income that has been billed but not yet received, and expenses that have been incurred but not yet paid. The most common accrual entries are for accounts receivable, inventory, prepaid expenses, accounts payable and accrued liabilities. Accruals are key sources of information for financial statements, as they provide an up-to-date reflection of a company’s current financial position.
Accrual entries are created by adjusting journal entries at the end of each accounting period. The entries are made as a result of transactions that were initiated in the past, such as sales that were made but not yet paid for, or expenses that were incurred but not yet billed.
